Last week, the Council of Mortgage Lenders (CML) published its response to the FCA’s recent Smarter Consumer Communications discussion paper. The paper by the FCA acknowledges the need for firms to better communicate information to consumers, so as to enable them to effectively compare products on the market and find the best provider for their circumstances. In its response, the CML provides comments on a number of specific items in relation to the mortgage industry, including: the FCA’s push for the European authorities to develop their disclosure initiatives using consumer research, the role industry and stakeholders can play in developing consumer communications, the FCA Handbook review and, more generally, the importance of communicating effectively with consumers.
