The UAE’s increase of IP related official fees earlier this year (see our post) may be becoming a trend in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. There are indications that, at the end of this year, Kuwait will also substantially increase official fees for IP matters. One example we have heard is that the publication fee, which is currently USD60, may increase to more than USD1500.

Kuwait is one of the less expensive GCC countries in which to secure trademark registration but that may well be about to end if Kuwait heads in the same direction as the UAE. One of the more dramatic UAE fee increases was the opposition filing fee going from USD69 to USD2725.
