The European Commission have issued several announcements of the final stages of implementation of the long awaited Trade Secrets Directive, the Cyber Security Directive and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which we have always predicted would run in tandem and will have significant repercussions for businesses and consumers with almost immediate effect across the EU.

Whilst the Trade Secrets Directive and the Cyber Security Directive focus on attacks on business secrets and business data and increase the need for better information security policies and procedures, the GDPR creates a new data protection and data breaches framework that imposes more duties on businesses and provides enhanced rights for consumers of all ages.
