In 2015, State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) of China received 1,102,000 invention patent applications, up 18.7%, being the top patent application list of the world for 5 years. About 359,000 invention patents were granted, up 54.1%, 263,000 of which were granted to applications from home, 100,000 more than in 2014, up 61.9 percent year on year; 71,000 were granted to applications from abroad, 25.000 more than 2014, up 35.9%.
Zheng Huifen, an official in charge of patent examination in SIPO, explained two main reasons for the 61.9% in-crease of domestic invention grants.
- Over the past five years, SIPO built 6 patent examination corporation centers including in Jiangsu, Guangdong, Henan, Hubei and Sichuan provinces as well as Tianjin, patent examination team expands and patent examination ca-pacity increases accordingly. In 2015, the number of concluded invention patents grew about 30%, promoting the same growth of invention grants.
- The improvements of nationwide innovation capacity improved and quality of patents also bring the increase of invention patent grants.
