On 30 January 2015, the Thai government announced that a US$ 1.7 billion deal to develop the Dawei industrial zone in southeastern Myanmar will be signed in March 2015. The Dawei Special Economic Zone project will be Southeast Asia’s largest industrial complex once completed and will include: (i) highway links from to Bangkok and Thailand’s eastern seaboard; (ii) a deep sea port; and (iii) a petrochemical and heavy industry hub on the Myanmar-Thai peninsula. The deal will be signed between Rojana Industrial Park Plc and Italian-Thai Development Plc.
