In Frankfurt on 23 September, EIOPA hosted a Public Hearing on its Consultation Paper on draft technical advice on possible delegated acts concerning the Insurance Distribution Directive (IDD). The event was available to view on their website via live stream.
The policy proposals and the rationale behind them were introduced by representatives from EIOPA, the European Commission and national authorities who then addressed questions raised by participants at the event. The main themes discussed were: Product Oversight & Governance; Conflicts of Interest & Inducements; and Suitability, Appropriateness and Reporting to customers.
The objective of the event was to give 160 stakeholders from the financial services sector, in particular representatives from the insurance industry such as insurers, agents and brokers, consumer representatives and academics, the opportunity to discuss the policy proposals with representatives of EIOPA and national authorities and to comment on the draft technical advice.
The views received will help EIOPA to further develop the policy proposals for its technical advice to the European Commission.
