Today, the Department of Labor published a final rule regarding paid sick leave for federal contractors. The final rule implements Executive Order 13706, Establishing Paid Sick Leave for Federal Contractors. President Obama signed the order earlier this month, and it requires parties who enter into certain contracts with the federal government to provide covered employees with up to seven (7) days of paid sick leave each year. Such sick leave includes paid leave for family care. The final rule describes the types of contracts and employees covered by the order as well as rules regarding accrual methods and use of paid sick leave. It also establishes enforcement procedures and remedies for violations. The final rule can be accessed here: Covered companies should review their current policies to ensure compliance with this rule.
