On May 29, 2015, the Minister of Jobs, Skills, Training and Labour issued astatement criticizing the existing formula for minimum wage increases, based on the consumer price index and average weekly earnings. The government promised to undertake targeted consultations with stakeholders throughout the month of June.

On June  29, 2015, the Minister announced that the minimum wage for most employees will increase by $1.00 to $11.20/hour on October 1, 2015, with a target increase to $15.00 by 2018. Liquor servers who are currently subject to a lower minimum wage will see an increase of $1.50 to $10.70/hour, an increase of more than 16%. The government intends on eliminating the minimum wage differential for liquor servers by October 1, 2016.
