The top five categories that have received the largest amount of applications are class 25 (219967 cases), class 35 (191928 cases), class 9 (141023 cases), class 30 (124528 cases) and class 43 (91745 cases) in order. The ranking of the former four categories is the same as last year, while the fifth category changes from class 29 last year to class 43 this year, demonstrating that, besides clothing, commercial service, instrument and equipment, and food, catering and accommodation also has become a field that receives concentrated trademark applications.

Among the commodities or service classes which are specified for foreign applicants applying for registering trademarks in China (including applications for extending territories of Madrid international registration of trademarks), the top five categories that have received the largest amount of applications are the same as last year, namely, class 9 (13664 cases), class 35 (9438 cases), class 3 (7404 cases) and class 5 (6509 cases), demonstrating that the categories of instrument and equipment, commercial service, clothing, cleaning products and cosmetics, and medicine are still the categories that have concentrated foreign trademark applications.

The top 5 provinces (cities) that have received the largest amount of applications are Guangdong province (406393 cases), Zhejiang province (196993 cases), Beijing city (191152), Shanghai city (137615 cases) and Jiangsu province (122817 cases) in order. The sum of the amount of applications in these five provinces and cities has occupied more than a half of the total domestic applications, and reaches 50.81%. Besides, the provinces (cities) which have received over 40 thousand applications include Shandong province, Fujian province, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Sichuan province, Henan province, Hebei province, Hunan province, Anhui province, Hubei province and Chongqing province, and the number of these provinces (cities) is the same as last year.

The top 5 provinces (cities) that has the largest year-on-year increase of the amount of applications are Macao special administrative region (year-on-year increase of 93.56%), Taiwan province (year-on-year increase of 49.09%), Beijing city (year-on-year increase of 43.17%), Hainan province (year-on-year increase of 40.7%), and Tibet Autonomous Region (year-on-year increase of 38.6%) in order. The twelve western provinces have an amount of trademark applications of 282957 cases with a year-on-year increase of 9.73%.

The top 5 provinces (cities) with respect to the amount of effective domestic registrations are Guangdong province (1314188 cases), Zhejiang province (965127 cases), Beijing city (545713 cases), Jiangsu province (516356 cases) and Shanghai city (431987 cases) in order.

The top 5 provinces (cities) that have the largest amount of international registration application are Shandong province (820 cases), Guangdong province (598 cases), Zhejiang province (322 cases), Jiangsu province (244 cases) and Fujian province (147 cases) in order.

The top 10 countries or regions that have received the largest amount of foreign applications in China (including application for extending territories of Madrid international registration of trademarks) are respectively US (29811 cases), Japan (14054 cases), Germany (12831 cases), Korea (9972 cases), France (9870 cases), England (9634 cases), Italy (6797 cases), Switzerland (5775 cases), British Virgin Islands (4280 cases) and Australia (3756 cases). The sum of the amount of applications from these ten countries or regions has occupied 73.45% of the total number of applications in China.
