As you may know, plan sponsors must file their Form 5500 Annual Reports no later than the last day of the seventh month after the plan year ends. For calendar year plans, this date is typically July 31st of each year. Because July 31, 2010 is a Saturday, plan sponsors must file their 2009 Form 5500 Annual Reports by Monday, August 2, 2010. If you need an extension in order to file, please be sure to complete and submit IRS Form 5558 (Application for Extension of Time To File Certain Employee Benefit Plan Returns). Plan sponsors must attach a copy of the submitted Form 5558 to each Form 5500 for which the extension is being requested.
File 2009 calendar year plan Form 5500s by August 2, 2010
