The Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL) have released their Whiplash Report 2012 as an attempt to promote "sensible debate about the issue". Amongst their findings are:

  • Whiplash claims have fallen in the last year
  • 1 in a 100 people suffered a whiplash injury in the last year
  • 1 in 5 people have had symptoms lasting over a year

They also found that 28 per cent of people were encouraged to claim compensation by insurers, 21 per cent by a lawyer and 11 per cent by a CMC, with 31 per cent pursuing a claim independently. APIL believe their report proves that lawyers do not drive claims and that whiplash fraud is not on the rise.
