For almost a decade the Corruption of Foreign Public Officials Act 1999 was practically ignored. However, since the formation of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) International Anti-Corruption Unit in 2007, the group has been busy moving prosecutions forward. As many as 30 foreign corruption cases are now being investigated. Enforcement has become much more aggressive, with fines continuing to rise.
