The Governors’ Wind Energy Coalition, representing 23 states, has sent a letter to President Obama outlining several recommendations they believe he should take “to help states realize their wind energy potential,” according to a recent Utility Dive article. Governors Dennis Daugaard (R-South Dakota) and Jay Inslee (D-Washington) authored the letter, which asks the president to support “prompt Congressional passage of a multiyear extension of the renewable energy production and investment tax credits,” which they say enabled strong growth in the nation’s wind industry and clean energy jobs. The wind production credit had been extended through 2014 but has now expired. The letter also urged Obama to support “the governors’ efforts to expand national transmission development both offshore and onshore,” saying that the current transmission system is not adequate to meet the electrical demands of states’ information-based economies.
