Oxford University Press’ Kenyan and Tanzanian subsidiaries allegedly made improper payments to government officials in relation to the supply of school books.
The World Bank has banned Oxford University Press East Africa Limited and Oxford University Press Tanzania Limited from doing business with it for three years. The publisher has also been fined $500,000 (£318,000) as part of a negotiated resolution of the issue.
Oxford University Press has said that it is taking disciplinary action against the employees involved.
