On 6 September 2016, Dr. Manuela Zweimueller, Head of Regulations at EIOPA delivered a speech entitled “Looking back to look ahead: First experience with Solvency II Implementation and the way forward”. Dr. Zweimueller mentioned examples of tools to aid supervisory convergence including: the comprehensive information system; supervisory reporting data; the Supervisory Handbook; the risk free interest rate; the on-going monitoring of internal models; the Oversight Team; the Colleges of Supervisors; and EIOPA’s “peer reviews”. Her speech also touched on a number of topics relating to the implementation of Solvency II including: reinforcing risk culture; rethinking business models; the importance of dialogue between supervisors and industry; transparency; enhancing policyholder protection within and beyond prudential supervision; and a review of Solvency II.
