On 15 and 16 January 2015, the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) held public hearings for interested parties to make representations regarding the proposed acquisition of Neotel by Vodacom. Various fixed and mobile network operators and internet service providers objected to the proposed merger at the hearing, including Cell C, Telkom SA, MTN and Internet Solutions. A key area of concern if the merger is approved is the transfer of Neotel's radio frequency spectrum to Vodacom, which will give Vodacom an advantage over competitors in meeting the increasing demand for data by the consumer. ICASA also allowed interested parties to make further written submissions for a week after the hearings if they wished to add to their oral representations. Robert Wilson and Desmond Rudman are representing Internet Solutions in this on-going matter.
