Some Shield gaming tablets are the subject of a widespread product recall
Technology firm Nividia has issued a widespread recall on certain models of its Shield gaming tablet.
The recall follows reports of the lithium-ion batteries in the tablets overheating, posing a fire hazard, and relates to units sold between July 2014 and July 2015. The number of affected units is thought to be upwards of 80,000.
The company has asked consumers to see whether their tablet is subject to the recall by checking the battery type model number. This can be accessed via the Settings option on the tablet (Settings > About Tablet > Status > Battery). If the battery type model number is listed as “Y01” the unit needs to be replaced.
The company is offering free replacements via its recall process online. Full details of the recall process can be found at the Nividia website.
Consumers with affected units have been advised to stop using the tables immediately, except as required to participate in the recall.
