The Council has adopted the Regulation on transparency of securities financing transactions (SFTR) designed to improve the transparency of securities financing transactions (SFTs) in the shadow banking sector. SFTR is aimed at countering the risk of trading activities developing outside the regulated banking system by introducing new binding and reporting requirements. It sets out to discourage banks and other financial intermediaries from shifting transactions to the less-regulated shadow banking sector by ensuring that information on SFTs is efficiently reported to trade repositories and investors in collective investment undertakings.
