Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner vetoed a bill requiring binding arbitration in a long-running contract dispute with unions representing 70,000 state employees. The bill would have required the Rauner administration and the unions to engage in mediation and then binding arbitration in the event of a bargaining impasse. The bill would have further barred the state from imposing a lockout and prohibiting public employee unions from striking.    

Multiple unions including the AFL-CIO, AFSCME, and AFT formed a Super Pac with NextGen Climate, an environmentalist group. According to its announcement, the Super Pac will focus on “mobiliz[ing] working families on creating shared economic prosperity, building strong public schools, addressing climate change and supporting racial justice.”
