On 12 February 2015, the Infrastructure Act 2015 received Royal Assent. The Act makes provision, among other matters, for:
- The creation of Highways England, the government owned company with access to long term funding that will take over the functions of the Highways Agency.
- The government's Road Investment Strategy which sets out a long term vision for the strategic road network combined with a multi-year investment plan.
- A new "deemed discharge" provision for planning conditions where consent, agreement or approval is required and no decision has been notified within a specified period.
- Amendments to the Planning Act 2008 aimed at speeding up the planning process for nationally significant infrastructure projects and saving money.
