Acas has published three new guides on equality and diversity in the workplace.

The first guide entitled ‘Equality and discrimination: Understand the basics’ describes the protected characteristics and different types of discrimination. It also explains what employers should do to make their workplaces a fair environment and comply with equality legislation.

The second guide entitled ‘Prevent discrimination: Support equality’ explains how managers and HR personnel can encourage equality and promote diversity. It covers how companies can minimise the risk of discrimination by understanding where discrimination can arise and taking measures to stop it happening as well as monitoring how those measures are working.

The third guide entitled ‘Discrimination: What to do if it happens’ outlines the basics of what employers should do when discrimination happens or is alleged to have taken place within the workplace. It also explains how an employee should raise a complaint of discrimination.

All the guides include guidance on legal requirements and what Acas considers to be good practice.
