The Commission has published the results of its survey examining public opinion in the area of retail financial services (including bank accounts, mortgage credit, consumer credit, stocks/bonds/shares, investment funds, insurance and payments). Key findings included that one in 10 EU citizens do not have a bank account and there is a high degree of inertia around financial products and services. Hardly any consumer has bought a financial product or service from another Member State and 80% said they would not consider doing so. The Commission says the results show a clear need to improve financial literacy. (Source: Commission Publishes Retail Financial Services Survey Results)
