The European Commission consultation on the future of European company law closed on 14 May 2012. The consultation, launched on 20 February 2012, aims to find out whether the existing regulatory framework meets the needs of the current environment and where improvements could be made. The issues covered by the consultation include the objectives and scope of European company law, whether greater harmonisation should be explored, whether existing EU company law directives should be merged in order to reduce inconsistencies etc., the value and shortcomings of existing European legal entities (such as the European Company), and other issues.
A feedback statement will be published in mid-2012 and any follow-up initiatives will be announced in the second half of 2012
