EU Committee criticises Treasury over MLD 4: The House of Lords EU Committee has published an exchange of letters with Treasury in which it criticised Treasury's proposal to challenge the legal basis of the fourth Money Laundering Directive (MLD 4). Treasury's view is that the legislation does not have a specific Justice and Home Affairs legal base. The House of Lords Committee says it does not need this, and notes the Government has tried such a challenge on five previous occasions and always failed. Moreover, it cannot see the point, given that the Government has supported the progress of MLD 4. (Source: EU Committee Criticises Treasury over MLD 4)
