SAP’s former head of Latin American sales, Mr Vicente E. Garcia, admitted paying bribes to Panamanian officials to win government technology contracts for SAP. According to the DOJ, the director believed that paying the bribes was “necessary to secure both the initial contract and additional Panamanian government contracts”. The director settled a United States Securities and Exchange Commission enforcement action by agreeing to disgorge US$85,965 (the total amount of kickbacks he received) plus prejudgment  interest.
