There has been widespread reaction to Boris Johnson’s appointment as Foreign Secretary, with a number of countries expressing surprise and some dismay, particularly within the EU.  Many politicians and journalists consider that Mr Johnson does not have the diplomatic skills required for the job, regarding him as brash, capricious and flamboyant, among other things, but the US said that it “would always work with the UK because of the "special relationship" between the two countries” and that "This is a relationship that goes beyond personalities and it is an absolutely critical moment in England's history but also in the US-UK relationship".
