The Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Environmental Protection Agency are expected to publish the official proposal for the Corporate Average Fuel Economy Standards this week. President Obama came to an agreement with automakers this summer to raise auto fuel efficiency standards to 54.5 miles per gallon by 2025, and final adoption of the rules is anticipated by July 2012.
