New Bid Rounds for Oil Exploration 

The Director of the Brazilian Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels Agency, (Agência Nacional do Petróleo, Gás Natural e Biocombustíveis – "ANP") announced that it will release the preliminary tender protocol for its 13th bid round on June 11, 2015. Interested parties may apply and acquire the information package between June 12 and August 18, 2015. 

Pursuant to the announcement, 269 blocks will be included in this bid round. All blocks will be subject to a concession regime, in which Petrobrás will not be a mandatory operator. The Ministry of Mines and Energy (Ministério de Minas e Energia "MME") also announced that the upcoming bid round will take place on October 7, 2015. 

On April 20, 2015, ANP published the areas to be included in the 13th bid round and divided them into 23 sectors located within ten sedimentary basins: Amazonas, Parnaíba, Potiguar (onshore), Recôncavo, Sergipe-Alagoas (offshore), Jacuípe, Camamu Almada, Campos, Espírito Santo (offshore), and Pelotas. 

Nonetheless, as announced today by ANP's Director, Magda Chambriard, 7 blocks located in the state of Amazonas have yet to receive environmental approvals, and may not be included in this bid round.
