The ICO have announced their intention to update the ICO direct marketing guidance. The announcement follows months of media attention in the area of marketing malpractice and data trading allegations and investigations.

It is noted in the announcement that the current guidance offers organisations assistance with "carrying out direct marketing, containing information about PECR, third party consent and buying and selling of personal data". However, the current guidance was published two years ago and the ICO now require help determining how useful this guidance actually is to companies in practice. In this aim they have produced a survey asking individuals and organisations who use/have used the guidance to give feedback in respect of it. The results will assist the ICO's development of a more useful guidance document.

The survey will close on 18 September 2015.
