The Government has confirmed that the new public sector single Equality Duty will be brought into force on schedule on 6 April 2011. Following the close of consultation in November 2010, the Government has now published draft Regulations, applicable only to England and Wales at this stage, which set out the specific duties to be placed on public sector bodies, and the bodies to which they will apply. The EHRC has also published guidance on the duties to accompany the draft Regulations. It is anticipated that draft Regulations applicable to Scotland, along with accompanying guidance, will be published mid-February, with a view that the Scottish Regulations will also come into force on 6 April 2011.
