While the dust from Finkel continues to settle, the last couple of weeks has still had a number of interesting and important developments. Our update reviews federal and state regulators and projects. Also included is our status report on current regulatory projects dealing with energy market transformation.

This week, look out for:

  • a report from IPART on rooftop solar feed in tariffs (that suggests a divergence in approach to Queensland, where the QCA is exploring time varying solar charges);
  • a statement from AEMO noting the classic ‘duck curve’ effects of rooftop solar impacting on the WEM as part of the WEM Statement of Opportunities;
  • AEMO has published its energy supply outlook (which follows the AER’s recent “state of the energy market” report);
  • a draft AEMC determination in relation to non-scheduled generation and load (for large price-responsive loads);
  • a new AEMC rule change process following a referral from COAG in relation to contestability of energy services and demand response;
  • a draft AEMC determination in relation to the generating system model (i.e. data requirements required to be submitted to AEMO).
