The United States Environmental Protection Agency (“EPA”) announced in a news release that it awarded the Arkansas State Plant Board (“Board”) $277,359 to implement pesticide programs.

The Board administers the provisions of the Arkansas Pesticide Control Act.

EPA has delegated to the Board the authority to regulate pesticides under the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act (“FIFRA”). FIFRA is the federal statute that regulates the registration, distribution, sale and use of pesticides. The law includes herbicides, antimicrobials and devices.

The Board utilizes regulations to confirm that regulated products meets all state and federal requirements. It has authority to undertake enforcement actions for noncompliance.

The grant funds are part of a cooperative agreement between the EPA and the State of Arkansas to support the Board in continuing to administer an effective pesticide program.
