ESMA has published a speech by Steven Maijoor, ESMA Chair, on ways to improve outcomes for investors in EU-based investment funds. ESMA believes that more can be done to improve the efficiency and transparency of the EU investment fund sector and it is seeking to build on certain regulatory initiatives to achieve this goal. Points of interest in Mr Maijoor's speech relate to: (i) improving transparency and the information available to fund investors and proposed disclosures under MiFID II; (ii) the removal of unjustified barriers to the cross-border distribution of investment funds and the CMU action plan; and (iii) consideration of the potential of FinTech to bring radical change.
