On October 24th, U.S. District Court Judge Jed S. Rakoff sentenced the former managing director of McKinsey & Co. Rajat Gupta to two years in prison after a jury convicted him of providing hedge fund manager Raj Rajaratnam with insider information. Judge Rakoff's Order explains how he arrived at Gupta's significantly below-guidelines sentence, comparing his past philanthropic and humanitarian efforts against his "aberrant" decision to "stab Goldman in the back" by engaging in insider trading.
