New sectors of activity for the Ministry of the Environment, Water and Forestry

The Government of Romania enacted a new decision concerning the organization and operation of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Forestry. On the effective date of the new decision, the previous legislative enactments governing the organization and operation of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, the Department for Water, Forestry and Fisheries, respectively, shall be repealed.

In line with the new regulation, the ministry was renamed and reorganized, by taking over all powers and duties of the Department for Water, Forestry and Fisheries, which was wound up. Thus, the Ministry of the Environment, Water and Forestry has new fields of activities, such as: water management, meteorology, hydrology, hydro-geology, as well as management of forestry fund and wildlife. In addition, as a matter of novelty, there will be fewer positions allocated for the ministry.

The new legislative enactment was published in Official Gazette of Romania no. 58 of 23 January 2015 and became effective on its publication date.
