A former magistrates' court administrative officer, Munir Patel, has admitted asking for and receiving a £500 payment to “get rid” of a speeding ticket. This is the first prosecution under the Bribery Act 2010. Sentencing will take place in November. The Serious Fraud Office (SFO) also announced the prosecution of Victor Dahdaleh for various criminal offences, including corruption, under one of the Bribery Act’s predecessor pieces of legislation, and money laundering in relation to contracts for the supply of aluminium to Bahrain.
