The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) has conditionally approved a merger in the retail sector involving the acquisition by Amatheon Food of a 51% stake in Real Meat Company and a 100% stake in More Beef. The CCPC found that the proposed merger would not lead to substantial lessening of competition in the relevant markets, but that it would enable the company to become vertically integrated and improve efficiency. The merger was approved on condition that certain local supply arrangements were maintained and that no jobs would be lost as a result of the merger for at least one year from the date of the decision.
