On September 14, 2015, the Department of Finance released its Annual Financial Report of the Government of Canada, in which it reported that the government posted a budgetary surplus of $1.9 billion for the fiscal year ended on March 31, 2015, compared to a budgetary deficit of $5.2 billion for the previous year. The increase in expenses of $3.6 billion was more than offset by a $10.7 billion increase in revenues.
