On 15 December 2014, the CBI published the second half of its Macro-Financial Review for 2014. From an insurance perspective, the Review notes that signs of improvement in the domestic life insurance sector identified in the prior review have strengthened and the solvency position of firms in that sector have also improved.  Premium income in the life sector grew by 14% in the first half of 2014, compared to the same period in 2013. The solvency position of most firms in the non-life insurance sector had improved during the first half of 2014 (and the Review notes that this was likely to be a result of bolstering of capital in preparation for Solvency II).
