Russian and Chinese companies are identified as most likely to pay bribes while operating abroad. The Netherlands and Switzerland were ranked in joint first place as the nations least likely to use bribes.
The survey also found that agricultural and light manufacturing sectors paid the fewest bribes whilst the public works construction industry engaged in bribery the most.
Ms Huguette Labelle of Transparency International said “It is clear that bribery remains a routine business practice for too many companies and runs throughout their business dealings, not just those with public officials. And companies that fail to prevent bribery in their supply chains run the risk of being prosecuted for the actions of employees and business partners”.
