Argentina - New law for the development of the Satellite Industry
In November 2015, the Argentine Congress enacted the Law for the Development of the Satellite
Industry No. 27,208 (the "LDSI"), which approved a geostationary satellite plan for 2015-2035 and
declares the satellite industry as 'national interest'. The geostationary satellite plan will be
implemented by the "Empresa Argentina de Soluciones Satelitales Sociedad Anónima", known as
"AR-SAT", which is a state-owned corporation designed for the fabrication of satellites and the
development of satellite services in Argentina. The geostationary satellite plan sets forth the goals of
AR-SAT in the coming years, which include the manufacturing of three new satellites, the assignment
of additional satellite spectrum with the International Telecommunications Union, and the educational
training of new professionals in the industry.
