A new Act of Parliament, the Public Services (Social Value) Act 2012 was enacted on 8 March 2012 and is now in force. It requires contracting authorities to consider how the services they purchase might improve the economic, social and environmental wellbeing of the area of the relevant authority. The Act was promoted by Private Member’s Bill.
