In a press release issued on 17 October 2015, the UN Security Council stated that it was prepared to sanction those who threaten Libya’s peace, stability and security or who undermine the successful completion of Libya’s political transition towards forming a government of national accord under a political agreement presented to the UN on 8 October 2015. To date the UN has not introduced such sanctions.
EU sanctions currently in force against Libya impose restrictions on individuals and entities deemed responsible for the violent repression in the country, specifically members of the Qadaffi family, and members of, and businesses and institutions associated with, the Qadaffi regime. These sanctions are set out in Council Decision 2011/137/CFSP and Council Regulation (EU) No. 204/2011.
