The tourism department chief of the Hualien County Government, Ms Chen You-jen, allegedly accepted NT$1 million in bribes from contractors over the last two years.

Prosecutor Mr Teng Yuan and investigators raided Ms You-jen’s residence and office, along with the offices of more than 10 contractors, in order to investigate the allegations.

Prosecutors were advised six months prior to the raids that Ms You-jen had allegedly collaborated with a professor at a college of technology in southern Taiwan to accept bribes and computer equipment from contractors in return for the opportunity to undertake small-sized projects including website construction and office furniture supply.

Ms You-jen denies the allegations.
