Spain - The CNMC initiates disciplinary proceedings against thirteen companies for inappropriate use of the number system The Spanish National Market and Competition Commission (CNMC) has initiated disciplinary proceedings against thirteen companies responsible for assigning telephone consultation numbers on directory enquiry services. The act by said companies of assigning short numbers allegedly contravenes the conditions of each numbering assignment. The CNMC decision to initiate disciplinary proceedings also derives from prior complaints by other operators, consumer associations as well as by the Spanish Ministry of Energy, Industry and Tourism, that had warned of irregularities regarding the traffic of the referred numbers. According to the CNMC, non-compliance with the conditions determining the adjudication and assignment of a short number for the provision of the consultation numbering service may constitute a "serious infringement" of the Spanish Telecommunication General Law. Within twelve months, the final resolution has to be published.
