Recently, a U.S. Federal Court has ruled that Amazon is responsible for charges billed to parents by their kids through unauthorized in-app purchases.

According to the Court's decision, Amazon promoted apps as "free" while failing to inform customers about in-app charges that could be incurred, which resulted in unauthorized in-app purchases by children using the apps.

The FTC's case against Amazon was filed back in July 2014, after the government agency had reached settlements with both Apple and Google over a similar issue. As a result of the complaints against Apple and Google, Google refunded customers with more than $19 million and Apple refunded more than $32.5 million (see our related update).
