The Bank of England has published its statistical release ‘Money and Credit’ for April 2015. 

Key points include:

  • total lending to individuals increased by £2.9 billion, compared to an average monthly increase of £2.8 billion over the previous six months;
  • lending secured on dwellings increased by £1.7 billion, compared to an average monthly increase of £1.8 billion over the previous six months;
  • gross lending secured on dwellings was £17.1 billion and repayments were £15 billion;
  • the number of loan approvals was 68,076, compared to an average of 60,679 over the previous six months;
  • consumer credit increased by £1.2 billion, compared to the average monthly increase of £1 billion in the previous six months; and
  • credit card lending increased by £0.4 billion, compared to an average monthly increase of £0.3 billion over the previous six months.
