The Commission has published a summary of the comments it received on its questionnaire on application of the third Money Laundering Directive (MLD3). Over half the respondents came from the financial services sector and most respondents agreed with the Commission’s views. Specifically, there was support for aligning EU rules to the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) standards and clarifying key aspects of application. Most respondents noted the problems arising from identification of beneficial owners and Politically Exposed Persons (PEP). There was also support for an extension of Enhanced Due Diligence to domestic PEPs. Respondents also stressed that Simplified Due Diligence does not mean no due diligence at all.
