The National Bank of Ukraine (the NBU) announced the list of banks, which have a non-transparent ownership structure. This list is updated regularly and can be found on the NBU website. There are three banks of Group II (big banks) included in the list, namely BANK KHRESCHATYK, PLATINUM BANK and BANK CREDIT DNEPR, and the rest are the banks from Group III (mid-sized banks) and Group IV (small banks).

We note that following amendments to the banking legislation in spring 2015, the banks are now obliged to disclose their ownership structure, which includes not only the ultimate beneficiary owners, but also any person that might in any way influence the bank’s activities.

Failure to disclose ownership structure of the bank may result in sanctions imposed by the NBU on the bank’s management, shareholders and the bank itself. Such sanctions include placement of the bank under temporary administration, which further may lead to its liquidation or sale to an investor.
