The former manager of China National Coal Group, Mr Zhang Baoshan, has received eight years imprisonment for allegedly accepting more than 2.8 million yuan (HK$3.4 million) from three energy companies between 2007 and 2009.

It is reported that Mr Baoshan purchased a central Beijing apartment from Guangzhou Dayou Coal Sell management for three million yuan, despite it being valued at almost five million yuan. Furthermore, he received a 680,000 yuan golf club membership from G-Ocean Energy Group and 400,000 yuan in cash from a Zhejiang-based energy company.

Mr Baoshan was given a more lenient sentence because he surrendered himself and returned the bribe money. He has not indicated whether he will appeal the verdict.
